I am going to get destroyed for posting this. Oh well, I deserve it and the threads have been really boring lately anyway.

I could turn this into a really long and complicated story, because it is one (trust me). But I will keep it as short as I possibly can to spare everyone. It could be so much longer if I explained all of the variables.

So here is the short and sweet version. I started a new job less than 2 weeks ago and I have just accepted a better one. A horrible ethical move, I know.

I'm in my mid 20's and I work in banking/financial services and I am a licensed Financial Advisor. This was one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make. A few months back, I was interviewing with 3 different companies. All are huge fortune 500 firms. Company A was the job I really wanted, but after the fourth interview I did not hear from them for over two weeks. I assumed I was done. Company B and Company C both offered me a position. I went with Company B, which was more of a management role then a financial sales one. It is a great company with amazing benefits and wonderful people. Just a few days after I accepted the position, Company A (my initial #1 choice) called me for a fifth and sixth interview. Long story short, they ended up making me an offer and I was left with a very difficult decision. In the end, I accepted their offer. This role utilizes my Investment Advisor Licenses (which I would have lost at company B) and is a leadership position as well. While my present position with company B offers fantastic growth potential, this one at Company A opens even more doors for me in virtually every aspect of financial services, commercial banking, and management. Further, the moment I walk in the door for my first day at Company A, I will automatically become the #1 person in the country in this particular position based on (luckily) being placed in an outstanding location. I am not looking forward to telling my boss that I am already leaving for a different company, but that is the decision that I made that I believe to be the best for me. I feel horrible about it because I believe that I should be a man of my word and stick with the commitment that I have made. But in the end I simply could not turn company A down, because it will instantly, vastly improve my lifestyle and point me in the right direction long term.

On a side note (and this is not an excuse): Even though I have only been at company B for two weeks, it has not lived up to my expectations and I have found that a lot of things the interviewers told me not to be true. It just hasn't felt right from the start.

this will be horrible news for company b.. good news for u.. congrats on the new job.. and simply go into the office of the manager and tell him the truth.. The truth will set you free in your own mind and heart and the company will be pissed and upset no matter what excuse you give... so that part really is irrelevant what "excuse" or "truth" you give

Feel blessed you are getting this amount of offers in this economy.. seriously I would love to be in that position myself.. although I probably would have chosen a company and stuck to it as I make commitments and see them out.

That's the part that's killing me. Not only am I risking developing a bad reputation in the industry, but it just feels horrible too. If I wouldn't have had a two week lag in communication from company A and thought I was out of the process, I never would have accepted company b in the first place.

No big issue here. I own my own company. If I hire someone and then 2 weeks later they take a higher paying job that I know I couldn't compete with........oh, well. It's life, it's business. Good luck, and don't worry about it. If the old boss can't handle it, that's his problem.

It is definitely true that these companies wouldn't flinch at Fing someone over. But I still don't think that makes it ok to stoop to their level. The thing is though, it's not only about the money. It is more money, but it's also a better company, more advancement opportunities, better location, and like I said it utilizes my investment advisor licenses that I worked my ass off to get.

HER problem. I am telling her monday morning and she is known to be pretty harsh so I'm a little worried she will try and spread a bad word about me with other companies. But I really can't control that.

Justin Cruise the Bobby Petrino of Therx. Nah just kidding.

Justin I have no problem whatsoever with this thread and I dont feel like you will get slamed from anyone who has a clue.

You did what you feel is best for you.
Thats what life is all about.
If you feel company B is a better fit then company A then go for it.

Because company A will get rid of you the moment they feel like you are not an asset to them.

No reason for loyalty to be a one way street.

Your feelings of feeling bad about telling your boss at company A that you are leaving after 2 weeks is a natural feeling.
But even though you feel bad about it does not mean that what you are doing is evil or bad.

If you feel company B is a better fit go for it otherwise you will regret it later.

The business world has had a history of laying the loyalty guilt trip card on just the employee.
Its manipulation at its finest.
They always want you to give the 2 week notice when you leave but that same company well lay you off on December 24th if its to the benefit of them.

Just be as classy as possible thanking company A for believing in you. Give the 2 week notice despite what I said in the previous sentence and move on.

Where's Chop ?? @)

haha
Despite what Justin may think I dont hate the dude.
Im just the type of person that tells people what I think they need to hear and that sometimes is not what they want to hear.
Justin has a habit of only wanting to hear what he wants to hear and lashes out against anyone who does not sing his song.

In this thread I agree with him.
So he may like what I have to say in this thread because I happen to be singing his song for a change.

I have worked in the financial services industry for a number of years and I can assure neither company truly gives a rats ass about you, so you must look at for yourself and your family. This is a grinding, cut throat, back stabbing industry and a little thing like ethics will only get you trampled in the long run.

Congratulations on the new position.

great points. And that's the main reason I ultimately took it. Bec.ause I knew that I would always regret it if I didn't. I know in my heart that it's the right fit for me.

Damm I got company A and B mixed up.
Substitute A for B and B for A.

Ouch, a woman. I find that they are definitely tougher to deal with, especially when It has to do with rejection. Again, good luck.
